Emir's Zindan
It is most likely one of Bukhara's most mysterious monuments. Emir’s prison was established in the 18th century, and it consisted of a lock-up, a debtor’s prison, and an underground cell.
All the cells were made of burnt bricks. Each of them had a depth of 6.5 meters and a diameter of 5 meters.
In Bukhara, religion was of high importance. Daily 5-time praying was under strict supervision. As a result, failure to fulfill one's religious obligations results in severe punishment.
Either religious violators or debtors were imprisoned here.
Zindan could accommodate at least 40 criminals, which is evidence of the low criminality of that time.
Nowadays, Zindan of Emir is a museum in which visitors can be acquainted with the artifacts and feel the atmosphere of that period.
In addition, visitors can walk around the corridors listening to prisoners rambling and visit the grave of "holy" prisoner Kuchkar-Ata, who has been respected by all prisoners.
