Bukhara State Museum-Park of Architecture and Art

Bukhara State Museum-Park of Architecture and Art was officially established in 1922. It has housed monuments to Bukhara's spiritual and material culture for the entirety of its 2500-year history.

 

In 1922, the first artifacts from the history of Bukhara were exhibited in the museum. It was the properties of city rulers from the Mangit dynasty (19th–20th century), items by artisans and other masters of applied art, and so on.

The museum began to fill up with artifacts approximately in the 1950s. Specialists from the museum joined special expeditions to neighboring cities and Bukhara province itself.

Some of the items were found during those expeditions, but some others were purchased from local people. Over the years of the museum's functioning, many specialists changed.

However, all of them brought a great contribution to the formation and development of the Bukhara State Museum-Park of Architecture and Art. They are A.H.Nurillaeva, H.H.Turaev, S.A.Lukyanova, B.A.Kazakov, I.Ya.Idrisov, M.B.Tunin, Sh.R.Avezova, M.I.Niyazova, and many others.

Now, the collection of artifacts is divided into several parts:

  • Graphic art;
  • Painting;
  • Numismatics;
  • Archeology;
  • Books, documents, photography;
  • sculpture;
  • Household items and ethnography

Totally, 67,756 various artifacts dating from the 2nd century BC–1st century AD and the 20th century are placed in the museum.

In Bukhara State museum-park of Architecture and Art frequently holds numbers of research works. Over hundred articles of museum specialists were publicized in several countries of the world.

Scientists and doctors of science from the museum permanently take part in international seminars and conferences. They have been in Russia, Hungary, Japan, China, Italy, Germany, Croatia, and the USA. There have been over a hundred works published in various countries around the world.
