Tashkent House of Photography

Tashkent House of Photography informs Tashkent residents and visitors about the best achievements in the art of photography and assists young photographers in mastering the craft.

The building was executed in the style of Medieval Eastern architecture and decorated with a tile portal. Well-known Uzbek architects, A. Petelin and K. Babievsky, constructed this architectural monument.
A group of famous Tashkent woodcarving masters headed by Usto Gafuri, Khodji Ashur, and Raufi Yakub has executed a unique carved door adorning the portal.

In 1997, the exhibition hall was named the Tashkent House of Photography. In 2005, it consisted of a part of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan.

The Tashkent House of Photography is also responsible for organizing competitions and festivals, and is currently compiling a computer archive and video collection that documents the history and theory of photography.

The Tashkent House of Photography holds throughout the year various exhibitions (our and foreign photographers), seminars, concerts, contests, and even workshops with conferences.

The archives of the Tashkent House of Photography present in the exhibition not only old but also modern photographs, a different textbook, and documents about the history and theory of photography. You can find electronic catalogs of foreign and domestic photographic art here too.

One of the main goals accomplished by the Tashkent House of Photography was the organization of the exhibitions "Independent Uzbekistan Art", which were held in the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The art exhibitions were dedicated to the 2500th anniversary of Bukhara and Khiva and to the 660th anniversary of Amir Timur.

In the exhibition hall, there were organized art exhibitions of South Korea, Germany, Japan, and France. However, the biggest event was the Tashkent International Biennial Photo Exhibition.

The Studio School of Photographic Arts and the Photographers Section were established at the House of Photography.
