Memorial complex of Memory of Repression Victims

The famous memorial complex of Shakhidlar Hotirasi was built in 2000 in memory of repression (1920-1930) against the Turkish clergy and intellectuals. The memorial complex became one of the famous historical monuments of Uzbekistan located in Tashkent..
In 2001, the president of Uzbekistan - Islam Karimov issued a special decree "about the perpetuation of the memory of victims of repression of the Uzbek people, starting with the 60ies of the nineteenth century until 1991, the Independence Day of the Republic of Uzbekistan". A solemn opening took place on August 31, 2002, and this day is considered a "Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Repression" in Uzbekistan

There was a wave of Stalinist repression in our country, which ruthlessly killed and sent to camps thousands of people. Conditions in the camps were so awful that such a reference is equal to death. More than 100 000 innocent people were sent to the camps and about 14,000 were shot. There was mostly a variety of art and science: scientists, art historians, artists, writers, poets and public figures. In memory of these people, it was built Complex in memory of the victims.

The museum's collection has rare footage and numerous papers and articles that contain information about the hard and terrible times.

In the museum exhibits begin with a black car, which took away people. In addition, there is the layout of the camp "Perm-36". Gulag camps, the struggle for independence, movement of Jadid, ethnic cleansing, and more. If you ask the tour guide, he will explain everything to you in detail.

The memorial complex of Shakhidlar Hotirasi occupies 17 hectares. It includes the park and museum rotunda. The park is decorated with beautiful flowers and trees. In summer, it is very cool. The museum was decided to build in the eastern style with a blue dome and beautiful woodcarvings. The rotunda with a turquoise dome is built on 8-marble columns. There is a stone bred toward Mecca as a tombstone with the inscription: "The memory of those who died for their country will live forever." The height of the rotunda is about 27 meters.

In former times, this place carried negative memories of human suffering but is now considered a place of veneration and memory. Students come to the set of Remembrance of victims of repression in order to learn about the history. Newlyweds came here that lay flowers in memory of those people that we will never forget.
