Mausoleum of Yunus-Khan of Mogolistan

The Mausoleum of Yunus-Khan is situated in Tashkent, close to the mausoleum of Sheikh al-Takhur Hovendi. This is one of the mandatory places to visit on a list of historical tours to Uzbekistan. The mausoleum was built in the 15th century during the Timurid era. It was able to survive with minor renovations to the present day and now it is an adornment of our beautiful city.
Yunus-Khan was a descendant of the well-known Genghis Khan. However, the most interesting fact is that he was also a relative of Ulugbek. Yunus Khan was born in 1416. His life was very difficult. Multiyear imprisonment in Iran played a significant role in his life. It was a difficult time for the future of the Mughal Khan.

Yunus Khan was very talented in poetry and music. He played on the instruments, wrote poetry, studied literature, Arabic and Persian languages and theology, and his government played a significant role in the history of Uzbekistan.

The Mausoleum of Yunus Khan of Mogolistan is unique among all the monuments of Uzbekistan. Its massive structure represents a T-shaped khanaka-mausoleum. Mazar served as housing for pilgrims and had special cells, which were located on the ground floor and on the second.

From the outside, the mausoleum of Yunus Khan is adorned with a colonnade, calligraphic Arabic script, wooden lattices and an ornament in the style of "girih." This style of decoration is called - is the ascetic mean. In addition, under the arch can be seen "muqarnas." "Muqarnas" - is folded in the form of a set of stalactites.

In the 15th-century entrance, doors of the mausoleum could produce a melody. Masters and architects that built the amazing mausoleum inserted ancient musical instruments called chang, which made a pleasant note when door opening or closing.

From all appearance, it had to be replaced only the front door, which did not survive the test of time for strength and reliability in the 20th century. Unfortunately, an unusual feature of the door has been lost.

The inside of the mausoleum amazes with the design of the centre cruciate bathroom room and several rows of cells with thyroid domes. You can get to the central hall through three entrances.

The dome that adorns the top of the mausoleum was put on a special cylindrical drum, which gave its reliability and has served on the preservation of all of its time of existence.
It is believed, that the mausoleum of Yunus Khan was erected for the burial of the great ruler. However, scientists have not still found his real burial.
