Monument of Courage

The Monument "Courage" is considered a memorial complex, which was erected in honor of the elimination of the consequences of the Tashkent earthquake.

Everyone who lives in Uzbekistan is aware of the terrible earthquake that occurred at 5:23 am on April 26, 1966.

Earthquakes often occur in Tashkent, but this one has reached the highest point at 9.1 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of this terrible event was the place where a monument now stands.
That morning, on April 26, 1966, people were awakened by a strong earthquake and hum. The ceilings were cracking; the ground was shaking under the feet of the people who were hurriedly leaving their homes... The Tashkent earthquake was attributed to the "vertical type". People were able to escape, but they lost their homes.

The monument is a sculpture composition of the family and the bas-relief panels in the background. The man who tries to shield a woman who is clutching a child to herself with his body.

On the granite podium of the monuments stands a black labradorite cube, which is split into two parts. One of its sides contains an image of a clock-face whose hands show the time: On the other hand, the date of the earthquake is written on both sides.
Relief compositions depicting scenes of the reconstruction of Tashkent serve as the background for the monument.

Many people in that year became homeless, but it did not make people go to theft and lawlessness. Furthermore, they put all their energies into rebuilding the city.

When the tragedy occurred, all the republics of the USSR decided to participate in the reconstruction of Tashkent. A few months later, they built the first new buildings: schools, houses, and offices.

After 3 years, the city was completely restored. Tashkent became even more beautiful, shining with his renewed views in the warm rays of the sun. A monument called "Courage" became a symbol of well-being and tranquility.

Our travel agency, "Orient Mice," will be happy to provide you with transport, hotel, and professional guides who will show you not only the city, but also tell you amazing stories about the architectural monuments of Tashkent.
