Mazar Chupan-ata

The Mazar Chupan-ata was built near the historical city of Samarkand. Its construction was organized in honor of the famous man who, in those days, was the most important among the shepherds and was considered a holy man. Mazar was built in the 15th century.

The mazar differs from other burial constructions in its design. Although it mostly resembles a mausoleum, archaeologists haven't found any signs of the burial yet.
Mazar is located on the northeast side of Samarkand, on a high crag. It is visible from anywhere in Samarkand.

Chupan-ata mazar is not a very large room with four arches, one dome on the outside and one in the interior part of the building. The color range of mazar is not rich. Architects have used few colors: the building itself, made in the color of soil, and the dome, shimmering from blue to turquoise.

The construction of Chupan-ata is damaged now. Its walls are sun-dried, the paint has faded on the domes, and its decorations are ruined. In the near future, it is planned for the restoration of the mazar.
