Mausoleum of Guri Emir
Guri Emir is the burial place of Amir Timur and his family.
Initially, Amir Timur built a mausoleum for his beloved grandson, Muhammad Sultan. He died very young, during one of his campaigns.
Amir Timur was prostrated with grief because he wanted to make her his successor. Amir Timur ordered the building of a beautiful mausoleum with a shady courtyard and decorated with carved mosaic.

The mausoleum was saved almost untouched by time and weather until today. In 1996, restoration work was carried out on the two minarets. During the restoration of minarets, architects noticed that the original buildings were built using an unusual technique for Central Asia.
For example, the prism base had an octagonal shape. The dome stands out from the decorated minaret. He was crowned with a golden pommel (kubba).
The whole collection of the mausoleum is very different in its scope compared with other landmarks. The interior height is 23 meters, with large ornamental decorations, bulky lines, sky-blue plates, and so on.
Even though the height of the dome is 12.5 m, its diameter is 15 m. The architects created a special niche in order to increase the space inside the mausoleum.
The interior decoration presents techniques and styles of the 14th and 15th centuries. Patterns, painting, coating, and decorative techniques are very different from the usual decorations in Central Asia.
On the walls of the mausoleum were carved panels with a rather large stellate girihi. A wooden door in a mausoleum with a beautiful carving will impress every visitor. In 1425, it was decided to set the tombstone of Timur. It was created from beautifully iridescent dark green jade.
This architectural complex contains the tombs of Tamerlane, his sons Shah Rukh and Miran Shah, and Muhammad Sultan. Ulugh Beg is also buried here (the monument was renovated and restored several times on his orders).
Scientists could not identify some tombstones in their research work.
