Shahrisabs

Shahrisabs is one of the most ancient cities in Uzbekistan, which is translated as "Green City."
From the very beginning of its origin to this day, Shahrisabs always attracts travelers. Even now, when you are still in the Tahta Karachi pass and see its lights from a distance, you think that you are getting into a fairy tale.

The Great Uzbek tract passes through Shahrisabs. In the 13th century, the Italian traveler Marco Polo made his journey here.

Shahrisabs is on the list of those cities, which arose very long before the time when the calendar began. The first settlement near Shahrisabs was formed in the 8th–7th centuries BC.

Under Barthold (an academician), the city arose in the 3rd–4th centuries BC when Greco-Bactrian culture dominated. Archaeological excavations evidence it.

The ancient city of Uzbekistan was able to survive such wars as the conquest of Cyrus and Darius (Persian kings), as well as the army of Alexander the Great. In the 8th century, Shahrisabs was considered the most important center of revolts against the Arabs and other internecine strife.

Shahrisabs has always been famous for its embroidery. In addition, even now, this ancient city occupies a leading place in the world for arts and crafts.

The historical tour of the city includes the famous embroidery workshops. There, you will be able to look at the manual work of masters, watch the process of work itself, and, in the end, buy something from souvenir shops.

Shahrisabs is the birthplace of Amir Temur, who was born just a few kilometers from the city in 1336. In this city, the future ruler spent his childhood and adolescence.

In addition, when Temur came to power, he decided to collect all the famous masters of applied arts in his hometown.

In the 14th century, by order of the ruler, it was decided to build a high wall around the city. At the same time, the ancient city of Shahrisabs became the center of science and culture in the East. Such great poets and scholars as Jami, Navoi, Ulugbek, and many others visited it.

Today, Shahrisabs is a small city with a few plants for winemaking and cotton ginning.

Products of the local industry are very popular. Here are factories called "Hood Zhum" that make embroidery and carpet weaving.

In addition, there are architectural attractions such as the Palace of Ak-Saray, the complex of Dorut Tillyavat, the Jahongir mausoleum, and the Dorus Siadat memorial complex.
