Taraz (formerly Dzhambul)

The history of this city spans more than two thousand years. It is one of the most ancient cities in Kazakhstan and is well-known as the "City of Merchants" and enters into a historical tour of Kazakhstan.

Historians have discovered that the first reference

Most of it relates to approximately the 6th century.

In the year 568, Taraz was governed by the Turkic khanate of Dizabula-Istimi. By the 7th century, the city had played a key role in the formation of the Great Silk Road. Through it passed the caravans, and there was a flurry of trade in souvenirs, materials, and household goods.

Taraz was a center for Turgesh and later, Karluk Kaganates.

In the 9th and 10th centuries, since the ancient city of Kazakhstan ran the Great Silk Road, the city began to develop culturally and economically.

In the 11th century, when the Qarakhanids conquered Central Asia, Taraz was selected as the capital of the new state. Mints were built in the city, which began coinage, and memorials were erected.

Some of them, for instance, memorials and Davudbek Karahan, have survived to the present day, and they are part of the historical tour of the ancient city. Also preserved are a lot of ancient tombs and ruins of magnificent castles.

Just 15 km from the city, guests of Kazakhstan on its historical excursions can see and capture the excavations of ancient architecture, which are included in the list of UNESCO "World architectural curiosities." These are the architectural ensembles of Aisha-Bibi and Babaji Khatun.

More extensive information regarding the history of these landmarks can be obtained by ordering a historical tour of ancient Taraz with tourist guides from the company "ORIENT MICE".

The city began to blossom in the 10th and 12th centuries. Buildings, baths and water pipes connect high buildings. And then it began to occur, this onslaught on the city.

First, the ancient city of Kazakhstan fell to Khorezm Shah Muhammad; then, there were conflicts among the Mongolian khans, etc.

The endless wars and attacks of the 15th century became the result of the decline of the city.

Today, there is no trace of the old settlement. It was completely built up with new buildings and cultural centers. Nevertheless, in some places of the city, archaeologists are still figuring out how to discover the excavations of the ancient baths and a couple of mausoleums.

The city has survived a lot of landmarks from medieval architecture. Absolutely all of them are included in the historical tour of the ancient city of Kazakhstan, and our organization, "ORIENT MICE," is pleased to conduct the excursions where you will learn the history of the city and all the surviving architectural monuments that have been there since it was built.
