Penjikent

Penjikent is an ancient city that is situated in the western part of the Republic of Tajikistan at an altitude of 900 m above sea level.

The city is considered a fertile place for architectural and historical monuments and is a great place to relax, as it was built on the banks of the Zarafshan River.
There is a nameless hillfort not far from Penjikent. That dates back to the 5-8 century BC. Excavation of the settlement involved over 60 years. It has been found that it refers to the early medieval era of Sogdia.

In the western part of the ancient city is a Penjikent settlement, called "Sarazm." It dates back to the 2nd–4th century BC.

Sarazm village shows travelers its cultural ties with the Middle East since ancient times.
Also, in the city of Penjikent, was found a well-preserved mausoleum of Muhammad Bashoro, which belongs to the 12th–14th century. The Mausoleum of Mohammad Bashoro is considered a historical architectural monument of Tajik architecture.

Pandzhrud village also stood out among the other villages, because there were born many talented people, some of whom were poets and singers, others were artists and masters of arts and crafts.
