House-Museum of Ahmed and Ayymhan Shamuratova

The opening of the house-museum of Ahmed and Ayymhan Shamuratova happened in 1998. It was opened in the famous city of Nukus, and it still fascinates visitors with its exposition.

Shamuratov Amet was a Karakalpak writer, state and public figure, as well as a translator and a member of the board of the Soviet Writers Union. In Central Asia, he is well known for his works "My Meeting with the Tiger," "Kirk Kiz," "In the Old School," and poems.
Ayymhan Shamuratova was a Karakalpak artist who dreamed of big scenes from his early childhood. Her dream came true and fans were able to see her in more than 100 roles in the plays by Kazakh, Uzbek, Karakalpak, and Russian writers and playwrights.

Every song in her performance had a special sound. It had their national identity, and many people tried to imitate her. This couple's life and work were able to show people how to express all of their pure feelings in an artistic career and life.

The entire collection of house-museum artifacts was built solely on the personal belongings of spouses. These are photos, documents, posters, books, paintings, and much more, which testify to their creativity and collaborative way.

The exposition of the museum shows and tells visitors about the interwoven connection between art and culture of different peoples. It is Russian, Karakalpak, Turkmen, Uzbeks, Azerbaijanis, Kazakhs and other nationalities.

The museum is a kind of indicator of the culture and history of the Karakalpak.

The house-museum of Amet and Ayymhan Shamuratova became a base for the dance and ethnographic ensemble "Ayymhan lapyzy" and numerous art and language clubs. In these clubs, kids can learn languages, learn to sew, dance and sing.
