Andijan

One of the most ancient cities in Uzbekistan is the small ancient Andijan city. Any historical tour of Uzbekistan includes a historical tour of the ancient city of Andijan, as old as the Great Silk Road.
Andijan attracts tourists not only with its ancient age but also with shady orchards, narrow small streets, and a picturesque landscape.

Scientists discovered a manuscript from the 9th century in which this wonderful city in our Republic was mentioned for the first time.

Andijan is located in the eastern part of the Fergana Valley. It is surrounded by high mountains and is washed by a river called the Andijan-Say.

The city is the administrative center of the whole Andijan region of Uzbekistan.
The amazing city is over 2000 years old. Within this period, there were many interesting and significant events. For instance, the great commander and poet Zakhiridin Muhammad Babur was born in Andijan.

Historians have different opinions about the origin of Uzbekistan's name. The most common version is that it is believed that the name comes from the old Uzbek clan, called "Andy," which was a part of the Kushan khanate.

During the time of the feuds and wars with the Arabs, the town was known as the largest trade center. Therefore, it was located on the route of the caravans. In the 9th and 10th centuries, Andijan became part of the great state of the Samanids, and in the 14th century, the ruler became Amir Temur. Since that time, the Andijan has developed in all existing branches.

In the 15th century, "Andi" was first mentioned as "Andigan." At the same time, the ruler of the city became a well-known historian, poet, scholar, and political leader Zakhiriddin Muhammad Babur. The house, named after Babur, is one of the main attractions of Andijan and perfectly preserved to this day. It is open at all times to all who want to be acquainted with the life and work of the great poet.

In the 16th century, Andijan was conquered again. At this time, it was the Sheibanids, and later, the city became part of the Khanate of Kokand.

In 1902, in Andijan, there was a very strong earthquake, which destroyed almost all the historical monuments of the city to the ground. Only a few ancient buildings were damaged a little. For example, the famous Jami Complex. The complex of Jami includes a madrasah, a minaret, and a mosque. It takes about 1.5 hectares of land.

Andijan is glorified not only for its historical buildings, but also for the factories (there are several) that produce oil. In addition, cotton fields are a very popular part of Andijan.
