Today you will have an excursion to Ancient Merv, located on the former banks of the Murghab River, was the most important node of the Silk Road. He received the highest flourishing under the Seljuk governor Sanjar. The name Merv comes from the collective name of five urban centers that existed under in different periods from the VI century BC to the XVIII century AD. Today you will also visit the sights of Gonur-Depe. Since 1971, archaeological groups have made a number of discoveries of these places. In the morning, you will visit the fortress of Gokdepe and the horse farm. In December 1880, the Fortress of Gokdepe was attacked by the Russians under the command of General Mikhail Skobelev. The siege of Gokdepe lasted twenty-three days, after which the city was taken by storm. The Gokdepe Mosque was built in memory of the defeat. Gokdepe is popular for its mint-turquoise roof and white marble structure. You will also visit the Gokdepe Museum, dedicated to the war. At the horse farm, you can see Akhal-Teke horses. This is the pride of the Turkmen people. There are more than 30 beautiful horses on the kongeferm. In the afternoon, you will go to the underground lake Kou-Ata, which is located 107 km from Ashgabat. Kou-Ata translates as "Father of Caves". The cave will enchant you with its magnificent beauty: the total length of the cave is 230 m, its height reaches 20 m, and its width, in some places, is 57 m. The bottom of the cave is covered with blocks of dissolved limestone (stalactites). The water in the cave is warm, transparent, and emerald-colored with a temperature of 33–37 °C (you can swim in the lake there). Overnight at the hotel.
