Margilan

A historical tour to Uzbekistan includes a historical tour to the ancient city of the Fergana valley, Margilan.
More than 165,000 people inhabit the ancient town of Margilan, and the territory of the city is about 50 square km.

The first mention of the city's origin referred to the 9th and 10th centuries. It is mentioned in Arab chronicles when the city was the capital of the Fergana Valley and ruled by the Karakhanid dynasty.

Later, Margilan began to be called the city of silk. This is the second name that this ancient city got because here high-quality silk was produced, which is valued in the whole of Central Asia.

There is a legend about the origin of the name "Margilan". It is said that residents of the city treated Alexander the Great to delicious bread and chicken, which was called "Murginon." Hence, the names of the ancient cities of Uzbekistan originated.

Margilan was also famous for its orchards. Such fruits as those could not be found in all of the Ferghana Valley. Zahreddin Muhammad Bobur also noted this fact in his famous work "Bobur-nome."

Margilan is famous for its monuments and architecture. Here are preserved ancient buildings dating back to the 19th century, such as Said Ahmad Hodja madrasah and the Chakar mosque.

These two architectural monuments are included in a historical tour of the city.
