Atyrau

Next to the Caspian Sea is another town that is part of a historical tour of Kazakhstan; it is Atyrau city. In the distant 1640s, a merchant named Guri Nazariev from Yaroslav and his family built the support made of wood. Around the fortifications grew a small settlement, which was called Ust-Yaik.

He gained this name because he is located at the mouth of the river Yaik. The village had another name--Uchug, which in Kazakh means "house".

At the mouth of the river, Yaik dwelt a very nice red fish, so the merchant chose this place to stay for the future trade.

The town grew and developed gradually. Seven years later, a stone one replaced a wooden castle. Little by little, other traders began to arrive there for trade and fishing of valuable and very tasty fish.

In 1649, a chieftain named Kondyrev, with his own attack on the town, was able to destroy it. Less than 12 years after the restoration, another chieftain, Parshik, attacked the stone city. Then another attack. This time, Ataman Kasimov took power over the small town, which is so famous for its excellent fish. The future city of Atyrau was famous for its fishing for several hundred years.

At the end of the 20th century, after Kazakhstan gained independence, the town was renamed Atyrau. Currently, Atyrau is divided into two parts: the old and the new. The historical tour of the city of Kazakhstan includes both sides.

The travelers who come here to breathe in the sea air and enjoy the history should not forget that the climate here is very dry. Rapid changes in temperature, cold winters and very hot summers, do not normally settle in Atyrau. Not everyone can get used to dust storms with strong winds.

The airport is located 5 km from the city and can be reached only by taxi.

Atyrau is very well known because of its oil and fishing. A unique oil field called Tengiz is located here.

By the way, there is another attraction in this small but ancient city-there is a pedestrian bridge. It is considered the longest bridge. He takes the place of honor in the "Guinness Book of Records" as the longest bridge in the world.

50 km from the city is another historic landmark: Saraichik. It is a historic and very ancient place.

Saraichik is on the right bank of the river Zhaiyk, about 55 km north of Atyrau. This city was founded by Batu Khan in the 13th century.

Through this place passed the Great Silk Road, and it was mentioned in the chronicles of various traders who came here from almost all over the world.

Saraichik was one of the major political centers. Here were performed the procedures when Janibek, Berdibek, and many others from the Juchid dynasty entered the throne of the Golden Horde.

Due to Khan Burke, who ruled in this city, there was accepted Islam in this city. At that time, it contributed to the dramatic development of the ancient city.

The truth is that nowadays, only the ruins have survived.
