Samarkand is one of the most ancient and well-known cities in the world. Many interesting and even mystical legends are associated with it. During its existence, many legendary figures have visited it, such as Genghis Khan, Tamerlane, Alexander the Great and many others. If you pass 30 km south of the city, you will find a place between two mountain passes. This place is called Shaitan Zhiga that means the “Devil Plateau”.
According to one version, this place was named due to the shape of granite boulders spread throughout the valley. If you look closely, the outlines of boulders really resemble figures of demons. However, each person has its own interpretation, someone sees in them animals, ancient deities, and even the giant head of a fantastic humanoid creature. It seems that the ancient beings were petrified during the battle.
According to the legend, the pagan tribes performed rituals of sacrifice here, hence the name actually came. In another version, in the mountains was a battle of ancient and mighty warriors from which the heavens shook so much that they fell to the ground.
Nevertheless, scientists are skeptical of such statements, affirming that the rain, wind and sun gave this form to the rocks.
There are not so many plants in this place and there are no trees. However, in the spring time, you can contemplate a lot of springs welling up from the earth, where the locals graze goats and sheep. Landscapes of these unusual places will remain in your memory for a long time.
